FPS Foreign Affairs manages our country's diplomatic channels (bilateral and multilateral including European and specialized international institutions). It transmits to the relevant Coast Guard services any useful information that can lead to effective advocacy. The department Foreign Affairs and its diplomatic representations can thus, for instance, provide complementary tools in cross-border initiatives. It grants and manages diplomatic consents for state flights and state vessels. The Crisis Centre of FPS Foreign Affairs can intervene in the event of an accident in extra-territorial waters that would involve both Belgians and foreigners.
