On 9-10 June, representatives of coast guard authorities from around the EU and beyond gathered in Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal for the Annual European Coast Guard Event.

The event, organised by EMSA, took place in the framework of European Coastguard Cooperation, through which EMSA, Frontex, and the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA), support authorities performing coast guard functions throughout the EU.

Coast guard community comes together to drive innovation

Under the framework of the European Coast Guard Functions Forum, experts from across Europe gathered on 15 and 16 April 2026 at the headquarters of Frontex in Warsaw to explore how drones are transforming coast guard operations.

On 11–12 March 2026, the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) and the Italian Coast Guard, under the Italian Chairmanship of the European Coast Guard Functions Forum (ECGFF), jointly organised a workshop in Chioggia, Italy on the implementation of Multipurpose Maritime Operations (MMOs) and the use of innovative technologies in fisheries control activities.

The second edition of the Greening Award Initiative is now ongoing. 

Set up to celebrate the sustainability actions and activities carried out by authorities which empower a green transition, contribute to a more sustainable future, and which directly or indirectly support the goals of the European Green Deal

The EMD is the place where ‘Ocean Leaders Meet’. It provides an engaging and interactive experience to catch up on the current state of play on a broad range of issues concerning the blue economy and the marine environment and to discuss ways of moving forward. It features inspirational speakers, thematic sessions, stakeholder workshops, exhibition and lots of networking opportunities. The EMD targets professionals from businesses, governments, public institutions, NGOs and academia as well as EU citizens interested in the sea.
