The European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) and the Romanian authorities organised the Maritime Multipurpose Exercise (MME) Tomis 2026, a multipurpose maritime exercise held in the Black Sea on 13–14 August. The exercise brought together Frontex, the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA), the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), national agencies responsible for maritime border control, maritime safety, fisheries control and maritime security, the participating states, and maritime experts.

On 9-10 June, representatives of coast guard authorities from around the EU and beyond gathered in Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal for the Annual European Coast Guard Event.

The event, organised by EMSA, took place in the framework of European Coastguard Cooperation, through which EMSA, Frontex, and the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA), support authorities performing coast guard functions throughout the EU.

Coast guard community comes together to drive innovation

Under the framework of the European Coast Guard Functions Forum, experts from across Europe gathered on 15 and 16 April 2026 at the headquarters of Frontex in Warsaw to explore how drones are transforming coast guard operations.

On 11 May 2026, EMSA launched the 2026 Multipurpose Maritime Operation (MMO) in La Manche and the Southern North Sea, marking the third consecutive EMSA-led MMO in this strategically important region and the most comprehensive to date.

Frontex hosts the Annual European Coast Guard Event 2025 in Gdańsk

On 11-12 February, EMSA hosted the first thematic workshop of the European Coast Guard Functions Forum (ECGFF) programme for 2026 at its premises in Lisbon. Organised in conjunction with the Italian Chairmanship of the ECGFF, the workshop provided a forum to exchange perspectives and strengthen trust-based cooperation on coast guard functions.

On 11–12 March 2026, the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) and the Italian Coast Guard, under the Italian Chairmanship of the European Coast Guard Functions Forum (ECGFF), jointly organised a workshop in Chioggia, Italy on the implementation of Multipurpose Maritime Operations (MMOs) and the use of innovative technologies in fisheries control activities.
